We regularly facilitate professional development workshops for teachers wanting to include puppetry and visual theatre in their work programs. Dead Puppet Society offers teachers the chance to be guided through our methodology of Visual Theatre and performance making, and offers a crash course in the skills needed to support school students in the areas of Puppetry, Contemporary Performance, Visual Theatre and Ensemble Performance.
Our two day professional development session gives teachers a hands on practical learning opportunity covering the following areas:
Introduction to Puppetry and Manipulation
Introduction to Abstract and Object Puppetry
Devising for Visual Theatre
Storyboarding and Stagecraft
Puppet Construction
Shadow Play
Visual Theatre Conventions and how to approach them
Directing for Visual Theatre and Ensemble Performance
Duration: Two day Professional Development
Location: Dead Puppet Society HQ*
Cost: $295 + GST per participant

These workshops can be run with small groups or one on one and are available year round. We are also available to assist in structuring work programs and assessment items. Please contact us to register your interest and receive information on upcoming sessions.

What to expect
Our Head of Youth and Engagement Helen Stephens will guide teachers and arts educators through the company’s methodology of Puppet Manipulation, Worldbuilding, Puppet Construction and Visual Performance Making in this one-day masterclass, designed to provide a foundational learning that is instantly transferable into a Primary and Secondary classroom.
Participants will receive a hands-on practical learning opportunity and cover the following areas:
Introduction to Puppetry and Manipulation Skills
Introduction to Abstract and Object Puppetry
Devising and Worldbuilding for tabletop Visual Theatre performance
Puppet Construction
Puppet play with Dead Puppet Society laser-cut puppets
Discussion around Visual Theatre Conventions and how to approach them
Participants will also leave with:
A simple brown paper puppet
A completed table-top constructed puppet based on your own design
Comprehensive teachers notes and glossary of terms
