Corral around the benches and dive into the wonder of Australia’s oceans as you create your very own Kinetic Whale sculpture. Inspired by the majestic Humpback whales that migrate along Queensland’s coastline, this workshop invites you to craft a beautiful mechanical whale that glides with gentle, lifelike motion. Customise the colour and details of your whale before bringing it to life with a mesmerising kinetic movement. You’re guaranteed to have a whale of a time while creating a unique, custom-made sculpture to take home.
Under the guidance of Dead Puppet Society’s artisans at our Fabrication Workshop, you’ll witness the components of your whale being cut out on the laser cutter, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the same technologies used to build puppets and props for stage productions. Participants will then assemble their whale sculpture and construct its moving mechanism, powered by cleverly designed 3D-printed cogs that transform simple motion into a graceful kinetic display.
Gain an insight into the basic principles of puppet design and mechanical movement as you build and animate your creation. Celebrate Australia’s incredible marine life in this hands-on Kinetic Whale workshop, combining the craftsmanship of puppetry with the ingenuity of mechanical design. Join us for a creative night of making, movement, and a little ocean magic.
