Gather round the benches this Halloween season and take flight into the nocturnal world as you create your very own kinetic Flying Fruit Bat sculpture. Inspired by Australia’s iconic, shadow-gliding megabats, this special Sculptures & Sips workshop invites you to embrace the spooky spirit and craft a mechanical creature that flaps with mesmerising, lifelike motion. You’ll customise the colours and creepy-cute details of your bat before bringing it to life with a clever kinetic mechanism. Whether you're a creature of the night or just looking for a unique way to celebrate Halloween, you’re guaranteed to have a bat-tastic time creating a custom-made sculpture to take home to your lair.
Under the guidance of Dead Puppet Society’s artisans at our Fabrication Workshop, you’ll watch your bat’s components being cut out on the laser cutter, offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the same technology used to build theatrical puppets and stage props. You’ll then assemble your sculpture and construct its moving mechanism, powered by cleverly designed 3D-printed cogs that transform simple movement into a spellbinding, wing-flapping display. Gain insight into the core principles of puppet design and mechanical engineering while enjoying a drink with friends in this hands-on workshop - a perfect night of making, motion, and a little Halloween magic.
Designed to be both accessible and engaging, the build gives your fingers a fun workout as you piece together the moving parts with a touch of fine-motor finesse.
