Dead Puppet Society is seeking to commission a Queensland writer to develop a script for a new visual theatre work to be considered for production by the company.
As a small organisation that has benefited from the incredible support of the Queensland theatre industry, Dead Puppet Society is committed to providing opportunities that broaden the base of artists working in visual theatre forms in our home state.
In addition to the commission fee, Dead Puppet Society will work closely with the writer for dramaturgical and directorial support through drafting and development readings. We have partnered with La Boite, who will offer space for a two-day workshop of the script.

What do you mean by 'professionally produced play'?
- This is defined by productions that paid award rates to all cast and creatives involved.
Can I apply with a concept that has already been programmed?
- You will need to submit a new idea in order to qualify for this commission. The DPS writers commission is designed to support the development of a work from the ground up in the hope that we can produce the world premiere in the future.
Is this opportunity available to emerging artists?
- If you meet the above eligibility then you're welcome to apply. DPS does provide other opportunities to emerging artists, including the DPS Academy and Adult Masterclass Series. Keep your eyes peeled for our call for EOI's for these programs soon.
