Dead Puppet Society

DPS 2016, prepare for landing

Another year is almost over and what a year it's been! With 2016 just around the corner we wanted to give you a taste of what we have on offer over the next twelve months.

As the Society swings into production mode for two of our largest performances to date, The Wider Earth with QTC and Laser Beak Man, we've taken the chance to overhaul our workshop program. In addition to adding a brand new offering entitled The Theatre of Images, which captures the Society's creative process from beginning to end, we've streamlined our existing workshops into a second set of shorter Core Skills Workshops.

Thank you from the bottom our hearts for your continued support. We can’t wait to catch up in the coming year!

Adult masterclasses are back! Special workshops are a go!

Workshops anyone?

Our annual Adult Masterclass Series is back for a third year due to popular demand. This time the series will be hosted by Queensland Theatre Company and includes a free ticket to our upcoming production of Argus. Don't delay! Venture here for more information.

We are also running a brand new workshop in conjunction with the Argus season, specifically for teachers and students. This workshop will give participants insight into the Society's way of incorporating abstract objects into performance, and can be added onto any performance of Argus during the QTC season. More on this here.

We look forward to working with you!

Puppets strike again in 2015

With the start of 2015 Dead Puppet Society enters its sixth year. In that time we’ve gone from what was quite literally a dining table operation into a professional production company working across two countries. The last twelve months has seen our work premiere in New York City, The Harbinger tour Australia, and our education program grow to reach more students than ever before. We also spent time with Handspring Puppet Company in South Africa. Over the year we have received incredible support from our partner organisations, all of the artists who we have worked with, and the schools who have welcomed us into their communities.

But now 2015 is upon us, and what a year we have lined up. Once again we have existing projects hitting the road, and are continuing to pitch our work at major performing arts markets across Australia and the United States. We are honoured to have been invited into residencies with both the Queensland Theatre Company in Brisbane, and the New Victory Theater in New York City to work on the creation of two new projects. Both of these shows are works that we have had on our radar for some time, and now thanks to the generosity of these two organisations they are on their way to becoming a reality.

The growth and professional development that we have undergone has fortified our vision for the Society, and as such we have updated our education program to share the new ideas and working methods that we are using with students. We’ve also made the addition of a stock of teaching puppets to allow students to engage with the objects used by the Society and add value to their experience.

For Dead Puppet Society 2015 is about raising the bar, about working further afield, and strengthening our engagement back home.

We look forward to seeing you all throughout the year!
